Gangaramaya Temple

Sightseeing 📍 Colombo 02 🕒 Added Apr 13, 2026

Overview

Gangaramaya is not just a temple; it is a sprawling complex that functions as a place of worship, a learning center, and a highly eclectic museum. It beautifully blends Sri Lankan, Thai, Indian, and Chinese architecture.

The Museum Collection

The temple houses an astonishing (and somewhat chaotic) collection of artifacts donated by devotees over decades. You will find everything from ancient Buddhist texts and golden statues to vintage cars, Rolex watches, and the smallest Buddha statue on the island (viewable only through a magnifying glass).
