Viharamahadevi Park

Overview

Formerly known as Victoria Park, this is Colombo's largest and oldest public park. Located right in front of the colonial-era Town Hall, it provides a massive, green lung for the city.

Features

The park boasts large walking trails, a mini aquarium, a children's play area, a suspension bridge, and a large golden Buddha statue. In the spring (March-May), the park is spectacularly in bloom with bright yellow, pink, and red flowering trees.

Practical Information

• Entry Fee: Free.
• Best Time: Early mornings for jogging, or late afternoons for family picnics.
• Food: Local vendors sell 'isso wade' (prawn fritters) and cotton candy near the entrances.
